I started photographing people, professionally, in 1976 at the age of 16.

I discovered three things very quickly: First, I had a lot to learn. Second, inspite of this, people still paid for my work! Third, I genuinely felt that I had a talent. So I carried on!

The idea of digital photography wasn’t even a glimmer in my eye back then. That didn’t come until the early 1990’s when rumours of what might one day be possible started to bubble up. Although I had to wait (impatiently) until 1999 to start shooting professionally with digital.

I found the whole process incredibly exciting. The idea of being able to capture images, digitally manipulate (enhance!) them and present them to my clients, all within minutes was amazing, and at the time pretty unique. Most photogrpahers waited another 3 – 5 years before jumping in!

A trail of discoveries

At the time it was a long learning curve to do anything new. There just was not any of the ‘Gurus’ readily available to learn from. However, this enabled me to develop the way I wanted and along some unique lines too.

My personal focus was on making the most of graphical interfaces for fast, effective image editing as well as for sales presentations. Out of necessity, I jealously guarded what I had discovered and developed it further.

What I found amazing was, that as time went by, no one else appeared to be uncovering for themselves the discoveries that I had made years before, let alone coming close to doing what I was coming up with now!

Eventually, I realised that I couldn’t stand it any longer! Reluctantly, I have decided to reveal all!

Laid Bare
